At Meadow Springs we want to make a lasting impression. If
it is a young horse to start under saddle, a seasoned endurance
horse that needs legging up, or a show horse to go down the
trails, Meadow Springs is the place to begin. At the
training center we also teach riders how to prepare themselves
and their horses for limited distance and endurance riding as
well as general trail riding so you can learn to ride safely and
successfully.
At MSTC horses are exposed to a variety of
wooded single-track and open trails and can be taken to the
trails of the Shenandoah Mountains.
Judie is an endurance mentor with the
American Endurance Ride Conference.
Starting young horses in the round pen, teaching them confidence in
a comfortable manner, advancing to the arena, then to the trails,
helps develop a willing partner to ride along the trails -- happy
and healthy.
Horses are exposed to all kinds of terrain, and
get the experience needed to be competent trail or endurance horses.
Horses are ridden in group situations to see what
the personality of the horse will be when in crowded conditions.
Endurance horses are trained with all the
endurance gear on them from the start, such as sponge on leash,
cantle and pommel bags, breast collar and crupper. Trail
horses will be saddled with breast collar and saddlebags.
Horses will be ridden with a heart rate monitor
when in conditioning so we can safely build muscle and heart
strength and monitor recoveries. Owners are encouraged to
learn about heart rates, and conditioning.
Horses can be taught to camp in corrals or hot
wire, endurance owners can be shown how to set up crew areas so the
horse can be comfortable and safe. Teaching owners about trailering long distances, feeding, and caring for the horse to and
from rides safely is also available.
